Maintenance teams across industries are facing a common challenge: How to do more with less, even as their workloads increase. The current economic reality is that maintenance teams are losing people to retirement or other positions, asset maintenance is becoming more complex, and, all the while, budgets are shrinking. Reactive maintenance programs cannot keep up with the demands of modern facilities and preventive maintenance programs unnecessarily repair machines that don’t need it.
Condition-based maintenance (CBM) is the simple principle that allows teams to complete work only when an asset’s performance determines the proper timeframe for repairs. Condition Monitoring, the backbone of a CBM program, focuses teams on failure modes and prioritizes integral plant systems. Some of the key benefits of a CBM program are:

  • Preventing equipment failures and reducing unscheduled downtime
  • Extending equipment life and increasing utilization

Frederic Baudart is Lead Product Specialist for Fluke Corp., focusing on the company’s reliability and condition monitoring product lines. He has 20+ years’ experience in field service engineering work and preventive maintenance industries. He has held various field services and technical positions with responsibility for installation & commissioning as well as senior services management roles. He is also a Thermal/Infrared Thermography Level I certified and recently obtained his Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) certification. Baudart holds technical degrees in electrical and instrumentation engineering from Chome-Wynz technical college in Brussels, Belgium.

Eric van Riet, Ing. Electronics, is Manager Technical Support for Fluke EMEA and part of the Fluke Sales Development department responsible for all activities in researching, developing and supporting new businesses. He has 20+ years’ experience in field service engineering work, maintenance and Test & Measurement. He has held various field services, technical and managerial positions with responsibility for service & installation, sales as well as services management roles. Eric van Riet actively develops various pieces of content, from blogs, articles to videos for use in seminars, conferences and user training. He is also Thermal/Infrared Thermography Level II BINDT certified. Eric van Riet holds technical degrees in electronic engineering from Fontys technical university in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
