Monitoring a Bearing Damage in a Gearbox Using On-line Systems and HD Technology

Tim Sundstrom, Manager of Strategic Sales & Application, SPM Instrument AB

Description

In this presentation we will introduce the concept of HD Technology and how it has been used to detect a bearing damage in a slow rotating bearing in a gearbox. The presentation will describe the spall process in a bearing and suitable techniques for early damage detection. It will also cover choice of transducer type for low RPM bearing damage detection. The case story contains a number of measuring challenges:
-Low RPM (52 RPM)
-Limited measuring time window (triggered measurements)
-Planned maintenance stops only once a year
-Several signal sources
